Topping our list of Earth Day events is the exciting news of the Louisville visit of Judy Wicks! Judy is the world class business owner, social entrepreneur and co-founder of the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies and the Philadelphia Sustainable Business Network.

Judy will be speaking on April 20 and 21 at the Clifton Center, 2117 Payne St, Louisville, KY.

Judy is an internationally known and inspiring speaker, networker and vision-keeper for a positive, sustainable future. We are honored to have her visit us for this year's Earth Day!

On Sunday, April 20, Judy will be speaking at 7:oo PM, on her experience in creating sustainable community business through the White Dog Cafe, her famous restaurant in Philadelphia. A reception will be held before-hand at 6 pm.

On Monday, April 21, she will be kicking off the morning with an 8 AM Business Breakfast presentation on the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies with the 2nd Annual Kentuckiana Green and Local Business Mini-conference featuring presentations, workshops and networking with Judy and local business leaders on how to "Go Green and Local." Celebrating Earth Day: Messages in Honor of Our Planet

April 22, 2008: The 38th Earth Day Celebration

In the spirit of Earth Day, the Partnership for a Green City and the editors of Global Connections - the newsletter of the JCPS Center for Environmental Education and the JCPS Diversity/Multicultural Education Office - asked community leaders to share their ideas, experiences and environmental perspectives with readers.

We in the Partnership believe that government should lead by example; that we need to be wise stewards of our resources and finances; and that we need to set environmentally sustainable goals and achieve them. Two years ago, the Partnership for a Green City adopted the Environmental Principles. If you are not familiar with them, please visit the Web site by clicking on the Environmental Principles. The University of Louisville, Louisville Metro and Jefferson County Public Schools all have formally adopted them as guiding principles. We are asking for your help to hold us accountable. As you review the environmental principles, think about your work and our work. As you travel about our community keep an eye out for practices that don’t live up to the Environmental Principles. It is only with all of us working together that we can become more sustainable.

The Partnership for a Green City is looking for ideas: small ones that we can do today, and big ones that we can strive to work towards. The Partnership for a Green City does its work through seven teams. We welcome the participation of employees of the three partners and the ideas of everyone. If you have a specific suggestion or an idea feel free to contact one of the Team Chairs, one of the Steering Committee members or our new executive director Mr. Brent Fryrear.

Finally, consider writing your views, experiences, and what you see as opportunities for an upcoming issue of Global Connections. The online newsletter is published every month – September to May. Descripti	EARTH DAY HOOTENANNY AT WILLOW PARK IN CHEROKEE TRIANGLE 11-7 Community and green groups bring together music, dance, kid's activities and eco-workshops to honor the Earth. LOUISVILLE, Kentucky - February 26, 2008 - Mighty Kindness invites you to their first annual Earth Day Hootenanny on Saturday, April 19th at Willow Park in the Highlands from 12-6pm. Together with Community Farm Alliance, Rainbow Blossom, Louisville Independent Business Association (LIBA), Sustain Kids, and Heine Bros.Coffee, the Mighty Kindness Earth Day Hootenanny is a free celebration for the whole community featuring the Art of Earth Performance Stage, a Kid's Tent, a Free School workshop & education area. There will also be an assortment of individuals representing their organizations such as Kentuckians for the Commonwealth, Campaign for a Dept. of Peace, Cultivating Connections, Amazing Grace Whole Foods, and many other Earth-friendly groups, local green businesses, alternative healers, local farmers, peace and social justice organizations. The Art in Earth Performance Stage will feature the music of Leigh Ann Yost, Teneia Sanders, John Gage, Tamara Dearing, Troubadours of Divine Bliss, Kentucky Bootleggers,Dozens of Dollars, River Newts and Fool's Crow. You can also experience the magical movement of the Earth Mamas Dance Co. and workshops by Salsa Rueda & Playback Theatre. The Mighty KIDness tent will be host to Divinity Rose's "Kid's Open Stage & Storytelling", John Gage's workshop on music for the whole family, flower planting and finger knitting with the Waldorf School, face painting and other children'sactivities. The Free School will be offering educational workshops on a wide variety of environmental and community interests. Some workshops and talks will be on community gardens, composting, raw foods, homemade green cleaners, mountaintop removal, eco-landscaping as well as peace & social justice interests. There will be free gifts including books and give-aways from local businesses. Bring the whole family and pack a picnic for there will not be refreshments in order to keep it a "Money-Free Festivity!". Earth Day: Center for Faith and Action Activities
On April 22, Earth Day, there will be a fundraiser concert for The
Center for Faith and Action at James Lees Presbyterian Church. The
wonderful Four Shillings Short, a husband-wife duo who sing Celtic and
world music and play up to thirty instruments, will be performing.

The Clifton Green Fair will include booths/tables of information and
demonstrations from a number of local Green groups. There is no
charge for any group that wants to participate with an exhibit.

Clifton Unitarian Church is providing food for sale for the event.

Participating groups would set up at 5 p.m. in order that those
attending can wander and learn prior to the start of the concert at
seven.

Groups that might want to participate can contact by phone at

Earth Day: U of L Tuesday April 15 2008

My name is Megan and I am from the University of Louisville Student Activities Board . We are preparing for our annual Earth Day Celebration and would like community participation. We are hosting an information fair on Tuesday April 15 from 11:00 am - 1:30 pm.

Our theme is helping students "Save Green by Going Green". We would like your organization to participate in this event. We hope that your organization can come speak to students about how they can save money and save the environment. We anticipate a very large crowd for this information fair. This is an opportunity for your organization to display information and material about what you are doing to help the environment and what students can do to help. We would love to have you participate by sending a representative or two from your organization and/or sending information about your organization.

We anticipate attendance of over 1000 students, faculty, and staff.

This would be great promotion for your organization and for environmental awareness.

There is no cost to you to participate and we will provide you with lunch, as well as parking permits. Each organization will get 1 banquet table and two chairs and we can provide additional space if needed.

We can also provide electricity should you need that for a display. If you have items or materials they would like stuffed in a bag, send those ahead of time by April 9th to the address below.

We welcome you to bring promotional materials and/or giveaways.

Please let us know if you need any other accommodations.

Please respond by April 7th, so that we can prepare enough booths and food, as well as programs and flyer information for the panel discussion.

Join us for this very important day and a chance to highlight your wonderful organization's efforts.
